Cesare Montecucco

Professore ordinario di Patologia generale nell'UniversitÓ di Padova

Nato a Trento il 1.11.1947, si Ŕ laureato prima in Chimica e poi in Biologia cum laude presso l'UniversitÓ di Padova dove Ŕ attualmente Professore Ordinario di Patologia Generale presso la FacoltÓ di Scienze MFN.
Ha svolto ricerche presso le UniversitÓ di Cambridge ed Utrecht, l'Istituto Pasteur di Parigi ed l'EMBL di Heidelberg. Si occupa dello studio dei meccanismi molecolari e cellulari alla base della patogenesi di malattie causate da batteri patogeni per l'uomo. Questi studi hanno portato all'ottenimento di alcuni risultati di importanza sia strettamente scientifica che applicativa nei confronti di alcune patologie umane quali tetano, botulismo, ulcere e tumori dello stomaco e di malattie caratterizzate da iperfunzione di terminali nervosi colinergici sia autonomici che scheletrici. Inoltre, collabora attivamente con La Chiron-Vaccines di Siena alla messa a punto di un vaccino anti Helicobacter pylori, il batterio responsabile di gravi patologie gastroenteriche.
Il prof. C. Montecucco ha ricevuto il premio 1993 della Harvard Medical School, il premio 1998 del Consorzio Italiano per le Biotecnologie ed il premio 2000 della Deutsche Gesellschat fur Hygiene und Mikrobiologie.
Dirige il Centro CNR per lo Studio delle Biomembrane di Padova ed Ŕ membro del Council dell'European Molecular Biology Organization, dei Comitati di Valutazione dell'Istituto Pasteur di Parigi, del Centro d'Immunologia di Marsiglia, del Consiglio Scientifico del Centro CNR A. Salvatore di Napoli, e del Nucleo di Valutazione dell'UniversitÓ di Padova.
E' inoltre membro del Comitato Editoriale di otto riviste scientifiche internazionali ed ha svolto relazioni in pi¨ di centotrenta Congressi e Scuole internazionali.
E' membro dell'EMBO, dell'Istituto Veneto di Scienze Lettere ed Arti e dell'Accademia Europea.
