Nato il 03.04.1939 a Lussinpiccolo (Pola). Liceo Scientifico a Venezia e Trieste, laurea in Fisica Sperimentale a Trieste.
Ricercatore all'Osservatorio Geofisico Sperimentale (OGS) di Trieste: 1966-1972, poi Direttore di Laboratorio e Direttore: 1973-1979.
Professore ordinario di Sismica Applicata, Università di Trieste - Facoltà di Ingegneria, Corso di Laurea in Ingegneria Mineraria (dal 1980).

Ricercatore di Oceanografia Fisica (1966), dal 1968 è stato attivo nella geofisica per l'esplorazione degli idrocarburi, capo di squadre operanti in terra e in mare e responsabile di centri di elaborazione dati (Bari, joint venture OGS/DIGICON, e Padova). Poi le prospezioni per la geotermia, la geologia strutturale (vedi i profili sismici MS nel Mar Mediterraneo), la sismotettonica, il rischio vulcanico, geologico e sismico. Numerose le collaborazioni industriali e con agenzie governative (in Italia, Tunisia, Slovenia, Grecia, Austria, Antartide).
Chiamato alla proposizione di programmi CEE-DGXII per la geologia profonda e la R&D d'idrocarburi (1991-1994), ha lavorato in progetti CEE e UE: Environment-Volcanic and Seismological Risks, Mast, Joule, Thermie, Phare-Seismic Risk. Fra questi, le ricerche nel Mar Ionio (progetti Streamers, Profiles, Imerse, Imerse 3D, Provel 3D, Etnaseis, Sinbus, Seahellarc), nell'oceano indiano (Fournaseis), nell'Atlantico (Bigset), nelle Antille francesi e Arco Ellenico (Thales), e per il rischio sismico delle centrali nucleari di Grazzanise e di Krsko (Slovenia).
Ha preso parte a programmi per lo studio della crosta: profili a rifrazione profonda con Italian Seismological Group e European Geotraverse. Nell'ambito CROP (joint-venture CNR, AGIP, ENEL), è stato responsabile geofisico nel progetto italo-francese CROP-ECORS nelle Alpi e Bacino Provenzale e in quello italo-svizzero CROP-NFP20. Membro del Comitato Tecnico in CROP-04, -03, -18, -11; membro del Technical Committee di TRANSALP (joint-venture Italia, Germania e Austria); editore degli Ext. Abstracts della Conferenza Finale (Trieste, 2003); co-editor di Tectonophysics, vol. 414 - Special Issue.
Ha impiegato i metodi sismici per il posizionamento in sicurezza di piattaforme di perforazione e per grandi opere civili: attraversamento in alveo dello Stretto di Messina (Aquater-Snam-Tecnomare); Brenner BasisTunnel (BBT-Geie); controllo della subsidenza nell'estrazione di sale per dissoluzione (Solvay); sismicità e subsidenza nell'estrazione/re-iniezione d'acqua calda (Ferrara); misure vibrometriche pluriennali per Italcementi e S.T. Sistiana; gli studi di geotecnica per cave con coltivazioni in galleria; la definizione delle risorse idriche profonde del Friuli Venezia Giulia e delle risorse geotermiche con esecuzione di un pozzo pilota a Grado e redazione delle linee guida per il loro sfruttamento, fatte proprie dalla Giunta regionale. Ha operato sul rischio Tsunamis nell'Arco Ellenico e nelle Antille francesi, sulle strutture crostali della Sicilia (progetto SIRIPRO), nella ricerca di risorse geotermiche per produzione di energia elettrica (con ENEL e altri) e di oil&gas.
Al suo attivo memorie scientifiche e numerose presentazioni a Convegni (invited speaker a Baku, Ankara e Pechino). Esse riguardano gli studi sulla crosta in Italia e nell'area mediterranea, l'analisi del segnale sismico, la ricerca geotermica e d'idrocarburi, il rischio sismico, ecc.. Sono per la gran parte pubblicate in giornali internazionali. 
Membro di Commissioni, Consigli e Associazioni scientifiche, fra le quali SEG, EAGE, UGI, coordinatore di programmi di ricerca MIUR, revisore per riviste e per agenzie governative.
