General catalogue of Istitute pubblications from 1840

The publication of new works considered to be of major scientific importance or to make a significant contribution to scholarship is one of the main activities of the Istituto Veneto.

"Atti": Moral and Physical Sciences and General Topics
The "Atti" (Proceedings) have been one of the most significant voices in the Italian field of academic and specialist studies for over a century and a half. Each year they present dozens of essays on questions of history, literature, art-criticism, philology, law, philosophy and the humanities in general, and in the natural and mathematical sciences. Particular attention is focused on subjects relating to Venetian and Veneto culture. Since 1993 the Atti have been issued quarterly and, by subscribing to these, they may be received as soon as they are published.

"Memorie" (Monographs) Moral and Physical Sciences
The "Memorie" have been published since 1843 at irregular intervals. Up to volume XXX (1936-40) there was a single series and the works were not divided into classes. Since volume XXXI (1954-56) two series have been published, each with its own numbering: one for the mathematical and natural sciences, the other for the moral sciences, literature and arts.

Essays
Since 1999 the Istituto has been publishing some of the essays from the "Atti" in booklets, available from bookshops.

Biblioteca Luzzattiana
The Istituto Veneto conserves the library and archive papers of Luigi Luzzatti, a Venetian economist who was several times a minister of the Kingdom of Italy at the end of the nineteenth and beginning of the twentieth century, and prime minister from 1910 to 1911. It is a collection of great documentary importance and the Istituto intends making full use of it by publishing significant portions (for example, his correspondence) and promoting regular study-conferences, the proceedings of which will be published in the "Biblioteca Luzzattiana. Fonti e Studi" series.

History of Science
Since 1989 the Istituto Veneto has promoted science and technology seminars, keeping the Veneto region in the nineteenth century as its reference-point. Throughout this period, the industrial revolution, scientific and technological progress, and the resulting social and cultural changes had a great impact on society in the Veneto, not only in economic terms. The series of books containing the proceedings of the seminars thus offers a fundamental survey for anyone interested not only in the history of technological development but also of Veneto society.

Environmental Series
Since 1989 the Istituto Veneto has promoted the Summer School of Environmental Dynamics, with the aim of making its own contribution to the field of research into environmental dynamics. The lessons and seminars of the Summer Schools, which have taken place annually in association with the C.N.R. under the direction of Professors Andrea Rinaldo and Alessandro Marani, have resulted in a series of publications aimed at specialists and scholars in the field.

IVSLA Series - IOS Series
In 1998 the Istituto Veneto entered into a publishing agreement with the prestigious Dutch publisher IOS Press of Amsterdam, which specialises in the publication of scientific works. The series of books, in English, will bring together Monographs presented by members of the Istituto, conference proceedings and post-graduate schools organised by the Istituto.

Studies of Veneto Art
The volume "Antonio Canova e il suo ambiente artistico fra Venezia, Roma e Parigi" inaugurates the new "Studi di Arte Veneta" series on art history. The first book contains the proceedings of the post-graduate seminar in Art History organised by the Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti in association with the École du Louvre.

Monumenta Veneta
The Monumenta Veneta series brings together wide-ranging studies on the figurative arts, architecture and town-planning of Venice and the Veneto area from the Middle Ages to the early twentieth century, with special attention on the specific types of settlement, design and construction techniques, organisation of the building work, use of materials, constant updating with new solutions corresponding to shifts in taste, and sculptural, pictorial and stucco decorations. The first volume of this series, which came out in November 2000, is "L'architettura gotica veneziana".

Venice - Senate. Various deliberations
From the time of its origin in the thirteenth century, the Pregadi Council, known as the senate, was the most important decision-making body in defining the Venetian State’s policies. It not only discussed questions of public order and business, but also matters regarding the field of international relations and of war and peace.
The records of the deliberations, held at the Archivio di Venezia, are an important source of knowledge on the history of Europe and the Levant in critical years.
The Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti, with the contribution of the Fondazione di Venezia, is publishing the first 20 records still extant, covering the period between 1335 and 1381 (War of Chioggia).

Miscellaneous Items and Conference Proceedings
The conferences and study-days organised by the Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti are significant occasions in the cultural life of this Academy; by publishing their proceedings the Istituto intends to present the outcome of these scholarly encounters to a wider public.

Rules for the editing of papers (WORD document)
The Istituto Veneto publishes ‘Atti’ (Proceedings), a quarterly magazine divided into the two classes: that of moral sciences, literature and the arts and that of physical, mathematical and natural sciences (the individual essays published in the ‘Atti’ are here called Notes). It also publishes ‘Memorie’ (Monographs), also divided into the two classes, for monographic studies recognised as being of particular scientific and cultural importance by special committees of experts. Finally, it publishes specialist series and the proceedings of the conferences, post-graduate schools and seminars it organises.

Each essay and each book is firstly examined and approved by a member or by a special committee nominated by the meeting of members or by the Governing Board.
