The lands surrounding the Mediterranean
basin have been the cradle of three of the
most important cultures in the world,
impacting our present-day civilization.
History tells of fruitful encounters between
the Christian, the Arab-Islamic, and Jewish
worlds. The projected musical journey
touches different facets of Italian, Jewish,
and Maghrebinian musical creativity in
an improvised and free jazz way. It features
all the traditional elements such as singing,
dancing, the “voice” of wind instruments,
characteristic rhythms, traditional scales
and modes, but also the innovative spirit
of improvised music and stylistic elements
of contemporary music. The resulting music
aims at being a hybrid synthesis of both old
and modern expressions, in which citations
and elaborations from the repertoire of old
Italian music are crossbred with themes,
rhythms and the mood of traditional Arabic
music.
I paesi circostanti il bacino del Mediterraneo sono stati la culla di tre delle più importanti culture nel mondo, in contrasto con la civiltà odierna. La storia racconta di incontri fertili tra i mondi cristiani, arabo islamici e ebrei. Il viaggio musicale progettato tocca molti aspetti della creatività italiana, ebrea e magrebina con un jazz libero e improvvisato. Riguarda tutti gli elementi tradizionali come il canto, il ballo e la “voce” strumenti del vento, ritmi caratteristici, modi e scale tradizionali, ma anche lo spirito innovativo di musica improvvisata ed elementi stilistici di musica contemporanea. La musica risultante ha come scopo di portare una sintesi ibrida di espressioni moderne e antiche, in cui le citazioni e le elaborazioni dal repertorio della musica italiana antica sono attraversate da temi, ritmi e dal mood della musica tradizionale araba.
