SCIENTIFIC AREAS
The research activity, mainly in the field of Structural Geology, has focussed on:
– nucleation of localized ductile shear zones in the Earth’s lithosphere
– exhumed pseudotachylyte-bearing (paleoseismic) faults to infer the mechanical and chemical
processes of an earthquake source
– the association of coeval pseudotachylytes (seismic brittle faulting) and mylonites (ductile flow)
as a proxy of the seismic cycle at depth
– microstructures and deformation mechanisms of quartz (as representative mineral of the
continental crust) in mylonites
– role of fluids in deformation of rocks at depth
