XX School Of Pure And Applied Biophysics

January 25th-29th, 2016

Organised by:
SIBPA - Società Italiana di Biofisica Pura e Applicata
IVSLA - Istituto Veneto di Scienze Lettere ed Arti

With the support of:
SIBV - Società italiana di Biologia Vegetale
ISPR - International Society of Photosynthesis Research
University of Padova - Dipartimento di Biologia

Scientific Coordinators
Tomas Morosinotto (Department of Biology, University of Padova)
Ildikò Szabò (Department of Biology, University of Padova)
Giorgio M. Giacometti (IVSLA and University of Padua)

Director of the School
Giorgio M. Giacometti (IVSLA and University of Padua)

Meeting venue
The School will be held in the magnificent Palazzo Franchetti, located in the historical centre of Venice.
Palazzo Cavalli Franchetti is the conference center of the "Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti" (IVSLA) Venetian Institute for Sciences, Humanities and Arts.

Scope
The focus of the 2016 School is Molecular and biophysical aspects of photosynthesis.
Photosynthesis converts solar energy into chemical energy and support most living organisms on Earth. Biomass produced by photosynthetic organisms was converted into fossil fuels that now supply energy to power most human activities. The school will cover the most recent knowledge on the features of the photosynthetic machinery and its regulation. It will cover in particular the structure of photosystems, regulation of electron and proton transport, light harvesting and photo-protection, carbon fixation and photorespiration.
The School, now at his XX edition, focuses on contemporary biophysical topics. It aims to draw young researchers' attention to frontier research subject with considerable scientific and educational impact.

Registration
Maximum 35 students will be admitted to the school.
Applications are encouraged from young scientists (PhD students and postdocs) interested in the topics of the school.A poster session will be held for students to present their activity but the presentation of a poster is not mandatory.
The participation fee is 350 Euro which includes five nights' accommodation and attendance at the lessons.
The fee for students who do not need accommodation is 165 Euros.
Deadline for registration 4th December 2015.
Applicants are admitted to the school by the Scientific Committee based on the information provided on the application form (short curriculum).
The results of the selection will be individually communicated by e-mail.
Payment must be performed within two weeks of notification of admission.
Applications are encouraged from all young scientists (PhD students and post doctors) interested in the topics of the school.
Application process:
· Send an email to the Scientific Committee at: tomas.morosinotto@unipd.it or ildi@civ.bio.unipd.it
