AIM OF THE SCHOOL AND PRELIMINARY PROGRAM
The School promotes deepening of biophysical topics selected in the area of contemporary research. The selected subjects will draw young researcher's attention on themes of frontier research which are considered of relevant scientific and educational impact. The School will be held in the seat of the Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti, in the historical centre of Venice.
The School, in its tenth year of activity, will be on: Time resolved spectroscopic methods in biophysics and will deal with the following topics:
· Time resolved vibrational spectroscopies: 2D IR fs spectroscopy
· Time resolved FTIR
· Time resolved Raman spectroscopy
· Time resolved absorbance spectroscopies: fs pump-probe vis spectroscopy, nanosecond laser flash photolysis.
· Time resolved photothermal methods.
· Time resolved fluorescence spectroscopies: Fluorescence Correlation Spectroscopy, Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging, Single Molecule Spectroscopy

The list of confirmed lecturers includes:

PAOLO ANTONUCCI, LOT Oriel
Gateable iccd detectors for time resolved spectroscopy

GIULIO CERULLO, Politecnico di Milano
fs pump-probe vis spectroscopy, PS reaction centers

ROLF DILLER, University of Kaiserslautern

JÖRG ENDERLEIN, Forschungzentrum Jülich
Fluorescence Correlation Spectroscopy

ALESSANDRO FEIS, Universitą di Firenze
Time resolved photoacoustics

DICK FIELDING, Applied Photophysics
ns laser flash photolysis and stopped flow

PAOLO FOGGI, LENS, Firenze
2D IR fs spectroscopy, structure determination in short polypeptides

THOMAS GENSCH, Forschungzentrum Jülich

The number of students admitted is restricted to 30. The participation fee is 250 Euro which includes five nights accommodation and attendance at the lessons. The participation fee is reduced to 100 Euro in case the attendant does not need accommodation.
The school will take place only if a minimum number of participants is reached. Pre-registration must be submitted on line using the form (http://sibpa.itc.it/pages/mod_iscrizione_scuola2006.html) by 15 December 2005. Applicants are admitted to the school by the Scientific Committee based on the information provided on the application form (short curriculum). The results of the selection will be individually communicated by e-mail (or phone) not later than 20 December 2005. Payment of the participation fee must be performed within 24 December 2005. Applications are encouraged from all young scientists (PhD students and post doctorals) interested in the topics of the school.

This year the school is co-sponsored by:
LOT Oriel Italia, Bruker,
Applied Photophysics,
Becker & Hickl,
Picoquant,
Olympus Europe.
